INTRODUCTION

The Home Depot has seen major growth in recent years, the Covid pandemic created a perfect storm for them to grow and thrive. Although its stock has been outperforming, it still faces challenges with the steady decrease in stock prices, sales, and revenue they have seen this year. The recent decline of The Home Depot has to do with 2022 projections and the serious economic headwinds that face this home improvement giant. In spite of the largely positive earnings call, Home Depot stock took a hit and continues to recover slowly. Things like inflation of building materials, inventory cost, supply chain disruption, and more have all affected The Home Depot’s overall performance (Kelly, 2022).

To help combat this change, The Home Depot has invested highly in its ‘One Home Depot’ strategy to build a better Home Depot experience for vendors, partners, and customers. One of the main areas of focus is growth through an interconnected customer experience both online and at its brick-n-mortar locations. This strategy began in 2018 in an effort to move from customer service to customer experience, blending the physical and digital shopping experience. The website has become the front door of the stores, and stores become the warehouse hubs. Customers can choose either to buy online and get the products delivered from Home Depot stores or to buy online and pick them up in stores (Hoang, 2018). Today this ‘One Home Depot’ has bled into all areas from the supply chain, to culture change and management and leadership structure.

Indeed, with the ‘One Home Depot’ strategy, the company is striving to provide a “seamless and frictionless” experience for customers everywhere, at home, in brick-and-mortar stores, and the digital world but is there more that can be done? Currently, with the rise of the housing market for building new homes and the decline of DIY home renovations, The Home Depot should put more focus in 2022 on its Pro services, installations, and its Pro consumers such as contractors, construction companies, and home builders.
